DESCRIPTION:Those who wish to become official Members of our congregation will sign the Membership Book (if they haven’t already done so) and be welcomed by the congregation in a brief ceremony. Membership involves a commitment of time\, talent and treasure — according to each member’s ability to contribute. In turn\, members have the right to vote for Board members and vote on budgets and other church policy matters. Most importantly\, membership means committing to a spiritual community that believes in the worth of every person\, the pursuit of justice and compassion\, and the freedom to explore one’s own beliefs. \nIf you wish to take part in this joining ceremony\, or if you have questions about it\, please contact Sue Coyle or Kathy Feinsinger. \nA potluck luncheon and the traditional coffee hour will follow the service. DESCRIPTION:I often jest\, “Just because I’m an atheist doesn’t mean I don’t believe in God.” I don’t believe\, that is\, in a personal god\, nor in a benevolent and mysterious force some call God. But there are certain qualities theologians sometimes attribute to “God\,” along with a few of my own\, that I do believe in. In this sermon\, I’ll share some of my heretical ideas about God.
