Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist

Our guest speaker this Sunday will be Laura Bartels, the executive director and a co-founder of the Mindful Life Program, Her talk is entitled, “Just Like Me – Cultivating Compassion in Today’s Times”. Music will be provided by Jimmy Byrne, and Susan Proctor will be worship associate for this special service.

Laura writes, “More than ever, for ourselves and the world, compassion is needed today. Cultivating compassion has a key role in our own resilience and the resilience of our communities. In these times, when divisions are heightened, how do we develop compassion for the “other” and see them as “just like me”? How do we hold our inter-connectedness even when we disagree? Erasing the boundaries of our compassion and developing the traits of resilience and well-being may be the most meaningful response to our current times.”

As noted on the Mindful Life Program’s website:

“The practice of mindfulness is very accessible and provides you with the tools to cultivate inner peace and the ability to make healthy choices… mindfulness empowers you to cultivate attention which creates more choice and the ability to initiate and respond to life… [It] empowers you to engage in the moments of your life with attention and intention, creating a meaningful life according to your values.”

Those are goals that will be very familiar to all Unitarian-Universalists, making Laura Bartels’ talk a delight for all.
