Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist

Come celebrate the shortest day of the year and the return of the light as TRUU’s winter solstice returns to Third Street Center in Carbondale.

As in past years, child-and-family-friendly event will feature a bonfire, a wreath burning and wishes ceremony, a pagan tribute to the cardinal directions and a spiral dance. In this dance, every member of the gathering passes face to face with every other member as the line of celebrants spirals in to mark the dying of the old year, then out again to open to the new year.

Music director Jimmy Byrne will provide live accompaniment. Worship associates Nicolette Toussaint and Susan Cashel will direct the celebration.

Unlike past years, this entire celebration will take place outdoors to ensure Covid safety. (There will be no indoor snacks and no indoor pageant.) And unlike past years, the celebration will take place during daylight, at the time slot for regular Sunday worship: 10 am Sunday morning.

The event is free of charge and members of the public are welcome!
