SUMMARY:"May Day! May Day!" by Rev. Zenshin Florence Caplow
DESCRIPTION:May Day has many layers of meaning – it is the great pagan fire festival of Beltane; it is “International Workers Day”; it is a distress call (mayday! mayday!); and\, this year\, “May Day Strong\,” a call from labor organizations for “no work\, no school\, no shopping” on May 1st\, in response to what is happening in our country. Rev. Florence Caplow will share a multicolored bouquet of connections inspired by May Day. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"The Spirituality of Star Wars" by Dr. Krista Noble
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Dr. Krista Noble will explore the spirituality of Star Wars through the lens of her book\, One with the Force: 18 Universal Truths in Star Wars. She will discuss the Force\, universal consciousness\, meditation\, manifestation\, and how the philosophy of the Jedi applies to everyday life. \nBio:  Dr. Krista Noble is the author of One with the Force: 18 Universal Truths in Star Wars\, published by Bloomsbury in 2024. She is a professor at Maharishi International University\, where she earned her PhD and MA in Consciousness & Human Potential. Dr. Noble has also taught at the Holmes Institute and the University of Philosophical Research. She has presented at international conferences\, universities\, Nerd Nite\, spiritual centers\, meditation centers\, and on various podcasts. \nAdditional information that may be useful: \nMedia links: \nMy website: https://www.kristanoble.com \nMy Amazon author page: https://www.amazon.com/author/kristanoble \nMy Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/krista.noble.92 \nMy LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krista-noble-ph-d-6a263799/ \nMy YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@kristanoblephd \nSummary of my book:  Why are the Star Wars films so popular? Of course\, viewers love the characters\, the plot\, the music\, and the special effects. However\, there is a deeper reason why these films resonate with audiences: Star Wars contains universal truths—principles that are “true for all time\, all places and all people.” The same principles can be found in religions and philosophies throughout the world\, including the Vedic tradition of ancient India\, Buddhism\, Taoism\, Sikhism\, Judaism\, Christianity\, Islam\, and Native American/First Nations beliefs.  \nIn One with the Force: 18 Universal Truths in Star Wars\, Dr. Krista Noble explores these principles. She delves into a rich array of topics\, from the Force to collective consciousness\, and from enlightenment to immortality. Readers will see that the philosophy of the Jedi doesn’t only apply “in a galaxy far\, far away”; it is also highly relevant to everyday living. Like Luke Skywalker\, we should all look within to discover the deepest truths of life\, pursue our individual destinies\, and strive to reach our full potential as human beings. In these ways\, we can embody the wisdom of the Jedi. \nAdvance praise for my book \n\n “An intriguing addition to Star Wars scholarship\, which reveals the timeless substructure underpinning the space-age saga. If you watched the Star Wars movies with a feeling in your bones that you were seeing something unfold that was not merely the product of modern creative storytellers but something ancient and powerful\, this book will tell you why.”\n\n—Joe Holland\, Instructor of Consciousness & Human Potential\, Maharishi International University \n\n “One with the Force reveals why Star Wars touches the souls of its fans\, showing that this iconic film series has much more to it than meets the eye. Noble’s book expounds on the universal principles in Star Wars that inspire us and sustain the cosmos.”\n\n—Marci Shimoff\, #1 NY Times bestselling author of Happy for No Reason and Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul \n\n “This lucid study takes up a topic dear to my heart—the uses of fiction as a wisdom path—and traces essential principles from South Eastern and other traditions of wisdom and spirit appearing in Star Wars. The parallels mentioned by the author are evocative and even archetypal. The image of a path of spirituality emphasizing balance\, experience\, mindful action\, and unity found in difference speaks strongly to our time of culture wars and increased questioning of traditional creeds.”\n\n—Craig Chalquist\, PhD\, author of Soulmapper \n\n “Krista Noble’s insightful presentation of the Star Wars trilogy highlights and magnifies the inherent nobility of this blockbuster film series\, as she unearths and identifies age-old universal principles of life and living embedded in the story. Noble’s book provides a happy hunting ground for exploring the profound truths of the world’s cultural\, spiritual\, and religious traditions. A magnificent read!”\n\n—Dr. Judy Booth\, retired faculty member and current advisor at Maharishi International University \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"Flowers After Fire" by Rev. Zenshin Florence Caplow
DESCRIPTION:What can we learn from the natural world about how to survive and bloom in this time\, just as flowers bloom after great fires? What can we learn from the indigenous peoples of Turtle Island about surviving in the midst of the continuing genocide they have been experiencing for the last 500 years? Rev. Zenshin Florence Caplow will share first-hand stories from ecology and from indigenous people to offer some encouragement and a path forward. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Who We Become When It’s “Just Us”
DESCRIPTION:Some of the most important justice work doesn’t happen in public. It happens in the spaces where we feel safe\, unchallenged\, and certain we’re “the good ones.” In this Social Justice service\, we’ll explore a bracing (and strangely freeing) question: who are we becoming when nobody’s watching? Not as a guilt trip\, and not as a performance—more like honest spiritual training for the moments that shape our character: how we speak when it’s comfortable to be sloppy\, how we respond when feedback stings\, how we notice the systems that keep benefiting us even when we don’t “mean” to. \nTogether we’ll practice the shift from defensiveness to accountability\, from optics to integrity\, from “I’m not like those people” to “What am I willing to change—and what am I willing to risk?” Expect a service that is candid\, compassionate\, and practical: more listening than posturing\, more formation than finger-pointing\, and an invitation to grow a sturdier kind of solidarity—one that shows up in real rooms\, on real Tuesdays\, with real choices. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"Less: In Praise of Slowing Down" by Rev. Zenshin Florence Caplow
DESCRIPTION:In March we are exploring “The Practice of Paying Attention” and nothing keeps us from paying attention more than our addictions to busyness and moving fast. This Sunday Rev. DESCRIPTION:Why does life\, even at its most abundant\, remain threaded with struggle? This service reflects on the necessity of contrast—light and dark\, ease and tension\, belonging and separation—as essential to growth and meaning. Inspired by forests\, ancient wisdom\, and a brief history of textiles\, we’ll explore the idea that conflict and failure are not aberrations to be avoided\, but crucial strands in the fabric of existence. Rather than seeking escape or resolution\, we’ll consider how living with curiosity\, compassion\, and resilience–as well as with grief\, frustration\, and outrage–may be the richest invitation of our shared human journey. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"Wool and Wolf - The Power of Truth in Tempestuous Times" by Aaron Brown
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to live in truth? When Mark Carney addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year\, he challenged the world’s leaders to face the future with clear sight\, to not let the wool be pulled over their eyes any longer about the state of the world. He referenced one of the most powerful political manifestos written in the last century–The Power of the Powerless by Václav Havel. Havel\, a playwright\, became one of Czechoslovakia’s leading dissidents under the “post-totalitarian” rule of its socialist government. In an environment of suppressed speech and secret police\, Havel told the truth about life under dictatorship. He also warned that the West might need to hear his words at some point. Now seems like an opportune time to explore Havel’s work\, seeking in it both political wisdom and spiritual wisdom to help guide us through uncertain times. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"Returning to Ourselves: Recovering Spirit After Stress and Trauma" by Sean Jeung
DESCRIPTION:When stress or trauma knocks us off-center\, it can feel like our inner life goes quiet—or goes into overdrive. In this reflection\, you explore what “recovery of spirit” can look like after we’ve been overwhelmed: how we begin to reweave a sense of steadiness\, meaning\, and wholeness. Rather than rushing toward a tidy resolution\, the focus is on compassionate realism—honoring what happened\, noticing what we carry\, and making space for the small steps that support healing. Listeners can expect a gentle\, grounded exploration of how we return to ourselves\, and how community and care can be part of that return. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"Awareness-Based Meditation" by Elliott S. Dacher\, M.D.
DESCRIPTION:What if I told you a hardy resilience was already and always available to you? You may then ask\, “How do I access this?” Let me explain. There are two distinct forms of resilience – psychological and spiritual. These correspond to the two aims of meditation. The first is fostering a healthy human life\, psychological resilience. The second is leaping beyond to a larger fully conscious life\, spiritual resilience.   \nThis program will focus on the second aim of meditation – spiritual realization and the revelation of our innate and unchanging resilience. This requires an awareness-based meditation practice – a traditional approach that is simple\, direct\, effortless\, and yet profound. The great sages say – “how amazing we cannot see what is right there\, right now\, full and complete.” Join me for this discussion and practice that points us towards a true and stable resilience. \nElliott S. Dacher\, M.D. practiced internal medicine for 20 years before redirecting his focus to the inner dimensions of health and healing. He embarked on a second medical education\, studying the philosophies and practices of Eastern healing under the guidance of wise elders in Asia. Dr. Dacher teaches a profound yet effortless non-dual meditation practice. He is the author of five books\, including Aware\, Awake\, Alive and Meditation and Beyond. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"Why Albert Schweitzer Matters Today" by Paul Andersen
DESCRIPTION:Local author\, journalist\, and naturalist Paul Andersen has been telling Aspen’s story for more than four decades\, chronicling how one small mountain town became a laboratory for big humanist ideas.  In his recent book\, Dr. Schweitzer at the Birth of the Aspen Idea\, Andersen revisits the summer of 1949\, when Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Albert Schweitzer came to Aspen for the Goethe Bicentennial and offered his now-legendary call to “Reverence for Life.”  Seventy-five years later—amid climate crisis\, political polarization\, and compassion fatigue—Paul invites us to explore how Schweitzer’s ethic of deep respect for all beings might guide our choices\, our communities\, and our care for the earth right now. Drawing on vivid local history\, global perspective\, and his own lifelong engagement with Aspen’s evolving “Idea\,” he will weave story and reflection into a conversation about moral courage\, empathy\, and what it means to build a life—and a town—rooted in service. Come meet one of the valley’s most thoughtful voices and rediscover why Schweitzer’s message still has the power to unsettle\, inspire\, and lovingly call us back to our best selves. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:The Longest Night: Persephone’s Journey (Part II) – Return of the Light
DESCRIPTION:The Longest Night: Persephone’s Journey\nA Solstice Gathering of Story\, Song\, and Sacred \nPart II – Return of the Light\nSunday\, December 21\, 2025 · 10:00 a.m.Calaway Room\, Third Street Center \nOn this Solstice Sunday morning\, we gather to welcome back the light. \nDrawing on the myth of Persephone and Demeter\, we’ll reflect on what it means to emerge from a season of darkness with new wisdom\, tenderness\, and strength. Through simple ritual\, song\, and shared reflection\, we’ll honor what has changed in us and celebrate the slow turning toward longer days. \nThis service is the second part of our Winter Solstice offering\, following “The Longest Night: Persephone’s Journey – Part I: Descent into Darkness\,” held Saturday evening in the Community Hall at Third Street Center. You are warmly invited to attend either gathering on its own; each stands alone\, and together they form one story. Co-created by Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist (TRUU) and The Center for Human Flourishing\, this service is open to all — all faiths\, no faith\, the curious and the questioning. \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"Hope in the Dark" by Rev. Zenshin Florence Caplow
DESCRIPTION:As we turn toward the winter solstice of this disastrous year\, we will explore themes from the writer\, historian\, and activist\, Rebecca Solnit\, particularly from her book Hope in the Dark and her most recent online writings\, Meditations in an Emergency. Solnit reminds us that “pessimism and despair rest on an unwarranted confidence about what is going to happen next” and reminds us that  “joy doesn’t betray but sustains activism. And when you face a politics that aspires to make you fearful\, alienated and isolated\, joy is a fine act of insurrection.” \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:"A Way Worth Walking: Taoism and Wisdom’s Soulful Undulations" by Charis Caldwell\, M.Phil. M.Div.
DESCRIPTION:In our final gathering of the series\, Charis Caldwell shares wisdom insights from Taoism – an ancient tradition that has long emphasised “the Way” as a means of spiritual insight and liberation. What might it look like to walk the Way today\, during a time of year so far removed from stillness and soul? Drawing from the Tao Te Ching\, Charis invites us to glimpse a universal path transcending belief systems: the possibility of wisdom as practice\, presence\, and path. This talk weaves together the themes of the entire series\, imprinting a compass for those who seek to live in deeper alignment—with self\, community\, and planet. Whether you’ve attended all four previous sessions or are joining for the first time\, this culminating reflection will offer grounding and inspiration for the road ahead. \n \n\n\n	Related
