“Hope in the Dark” by Rev. Zenshin Florence Caplow

As we turn toward the winter solstice of this disastrous year, we will explore themes from the writer, historian, and activist, Rebecca Solnit, particularly from her book Hope in the Dark and her most recent online writings, Meditations in an Emergency. Solnit reminds us that “pessimism and despair rest on an unwarranted confidence about what is going to happen next” and reminds us that  “joy doesn’t betray but sustains activism. And when you face a politics that aspires to make you fearful, alienated and isolated, joy is a fine act of insurrection.”
