"Awareness-Based Meditation" by Elliott S. Dacher, M.D.
What if I told you a hardy resilience was already and always available to you? You may then ask, “How do I access this?” Let me explain. There are two distinct forms of resilience – psychological and spiritual. These correspond to the two aims of meditation. The first is fostering a healthy human life, psychological resilience. The second is leaping beyond to a larger fully conscious life, spiritual resilience.
This program will focus on the second aim of meditation – spiritual realization and the revelation of our innate and unchanging resilience. This requires an awareness-based meditation practice – a traditional approach that is simple, direct, effortless, and yet profound. The great sages say – “how amazing we cannot see what is right there, right now, full and complete.” Join me for this discussion and practice that points us towards a true and stable resilience.
Elliott S. Dacher, M.D. practiced internal medicine for 20 years before redirecting his focus to the inner dimensions of health and healing. He embarked on a second medical education, studying the philosophies and practices of Eastern healing under the guidance of wise elders in Asia. Dr. Dacher teaches a profound yet effortless non-dual meditation practice. He is the author of five books, including Aware, Awake, Alive and Meditation and Beyond.

2026 Pledge Drive: Please make your annual pledge
As we head into 2026, we’re turning toward the most essential part of our budget: the support that comes from you. Your pledge sustains Sunday gatherings, religious exploration, social justice work, community care, and the behind-the-scenes infrastructure that makes a lay-led congregation possible.
If you’re able, we invite you to look at what you pledged last year and consider increasing it a bit—whatever feels meaningful and sustainable for you. Thank you for helping TRUU thrive.

Preparing for Sunday, February 8 — Explore Elliott S. D
acher’s WorkAs we look ahead to our February 8 gathering with Elliott S. Dacher, M.D., you’re warmly invited to explore some of Elliott’s work in advance. His teaching weaves together contemplative practice, embodied awareness, and a deeply humane understanding of healing and human flourishing.
If you’re curious to familiarize yourself with his perspective, here are a few gentle entry points:
- A short introduction to Elliott’s work and background
https://www.elliottdacher.org/about.html
- An 18-minute podcast on two complementary approaches to meditation — “bottom-up” and “top-down”
This includes a guided practice and a transcript, and offers a clear, accessible taste of Elliott’s teaching style. https://www.buzzsprout.com/1894991/episodes/17966893-bottom-up-top-down
- A recent reflection on “awakening”
Elliott explores how awareness unfolds not as something abstract or distant, but as a lived, embodied shift in how we experience ourselves and the world.
Engaging with any of these ahead of time is entirely optional — and can enrich your experience on Sunday by offering shared language and context for Elliott’s message.

Host a Circle Supper: easy potluck + meaningful fellowship
Circle Suppers are one of the simplest—and most rewarding—ways to build real connection at TRUU. We’re looking for a few folks who’d enjoy hosting an upcoming Circle Supper in their home.
A Circle Supper is a casual potluck dinner with friendly conversation and shared community. No program, no pressure—just good food and good company.
At the heart of Unitarian Universalism is fellowship: the relationships that form when we spend time together beyond Sunday morning. Hosting is a wonderful way to help that happen.
And yes—it really is easy.
You choose a date that works for you, and we’ll help with the details (how many people, what to share with guests, simple guidelines, etc.). Potluck keeps it light, and we can make it as simple as you’d like.
If you’re curious or want to host, please reach out to me:

Some of you have asked how we can support immigrant families facing ICE-related disruption right now. One trusted donation option being shared is Stand With Minnesota, where you can give securely and choose specific needs to support (food, transportation, rent assistance, and more): https://www.standwithminnesota.com.
I’ve also heard unconfirmed reports of ICE-related arrests affecting members of our broader regional community. I can’t verify details, so I’m sharing this with care and humility.
If you’d prefer to donate by check or cash, please reach out to me and I’ll help make that happen.
