TRUU Social Justice Fellowship presents
"Preserving Home"

Description: What does housing justice look like when home itself is under threat? On Sunday, May 31, TRUU’s Social Justice Fellowship will explore the growing crisis of displacement as wealthy investors purchase mobile home parks and put long-standing residents at risk. Centering the voices of neighbors from Cavern Springs Mobile Home Park — including local organizer Judith Alvarez — this service will invite us into the lived reality of people fighting to remain rooted in community and to pursue resident ownership. Together, we will learn about the situation, hear how local residents are responding, and consider meaningful ways to offer support, solidarity, and practical help. Grounded in reflection, connection, and the shared human need for safety and belonging, this service will offer both information and inspiration.

- June 7 - Reverend Zenshin Florence Caplow introduces us to the June theme: Flourishing Together. Music by Patrick Fagan, Live In-Person Service (and on Zoom)
- June 14 - "Music is Alive, Magic is Afoot…" Long-time TRUU guest musician Ellen Stapenhorst presents a music service, with Dede Osborn as worship associate. Come prepared to sing and reflect on creativity.
- June 21 - Nathan Woodliff-Stanley returns to TRUU via video. Reverend Nathan served Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist as a part-time minister until July of 2021.

Congratulations to Nancy Bo Flood for receiving the Wrangler Award. She and Bill are in South Dakota Custer State Park talking about the process of creating her recent picture book about Poet Lariat Badger Clark, along with the illustrator.

In May, we had a great discussion of Becoming Madam Secretary and yummy potluck at Nancy and Bill Flood’s. Thank you for hosting, Bill and Nancy. And, thank you for orchestrating the appearance of a bear on your premises for the second time during a book club meeting!
Our June read is The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers A New Understanding of Life On Earth by Zoe Schlanger.
We’ll be meeting Tuesday, June 16th at 5:30 pm. Sondie is going to host in the community room at Crystal Meadows in Carbondale.
Please be thinking of a book for July, preferably a novel.

The TRUU Book Club is open to longtime readers, occasional readers, and anyone who simply enjoys thoughtful conversation in good company. Even if you have not participated before, you are warmly invited to come, listen, share, and be part of the circle.

Please bring your reflections, questions, favorite passages, or simply your presence. Book clubs are often less about having the “right” interpretation and more about discovering what rises when different hearts and minds meet around the same story.

Grief can feel isolating, overwhelming, and deeply personal — yet it is also something many of us carry in common.
|
|
Navigating Grief Together is a confidential, supportive grief and loss group for anyone experiencing the loss of a loved one, regardless of when that loss occurred. Participants are invited to share emotions and experiences in a compassionate environment guided by a licensed facilitator.
|
|
Through gentle conversation and shared reflection, group members explore ways to cope with grief and loneliness, move toward acceptance, and discover how life — though changed — can still hold meaning, connection, and hope.
|
|
There is no cost to attend. Confidentiality is respected. This group is open to anyone experiencing grief from any kind of loss.
|
|

Please join Mike, Jan, Thelma and Andrew to learn about the history of Unitarian Universalism through watching the six-part Ron Cordes DVD series "Long Strange Trip". We will meet consecutive Wednesdays from seven until eight-thirty in the evening, in the TRUU room. Each video is about an hour. Discussion and snacks.
